Saturday, July 24th
Coastal Georgia health professionals are raising awareness with a repeat of the successfully hot "Let's Dance, Savannah!" at Savannah Mall on Saturday, July 24, 2010. The public is invited to Savannah Mall's Center Court on Saturday, July 24th. Free dance demonstrations and classes, healthy snacks, blood pressure checks, BMI measurements, blood glucose testing and bone density scans.

Dance For Your Health During "Let's Dance, Savannah!"

Tired of the same, old exercise routine? t might be time to try dancing your way to a healthier lifestyle. That's why the Coastal Health District is sponsoring "Let's Dance, Savannah!" on Saturday, July 24th, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Savannah Mall's Center Court. The day of free dance demonstrations and classes is being offered to encourage dancing as a legitimate form of exercise and to teach people about the importance of cardiovascular health.

"For too many people, exercise feels like a chore," said Cristina Gibson, Director of Health Promotion & Disease Prevention for the Coastal Health District. "We all know we should exercise, but it can be hard to stay motivated to climb onto a treadmill. Add a busy schedule, and exercise often gets marked off the 'to do' list."

But dancing can be a lot of fun - and a great form of exercise.

"If you're feeling burned out on the traditional exercise routines, start dancing," said Gibson. "You get your heart rate up, your body moving, but it doesn't feel like hard work. It feels like fun."

Heart disease is the number one killer of American women. According to the American Heart Association, nearly 500,000 women die each year of cardiovascular disease. But regular exercise (including dancing), a healthy diet, and controlling your blood pressure can greatly reduce your risk.

The celebration will feature ZUMBA, ballroom dance, line dancing, African dance, Lindy Hop, Egyptian belly dance, ballet, and more!

The event will also include blood pressure screenings by the Community Cardiovascular Council, blood glucose testing, nutritional assessments by the Chatham County Health Department's WIC Nutrition Services Program and Body Mass Index (BMI) & bone density scans provided by the Health Science Students of Armstrong Atlantic State University. Information on the signs and symptoms of stroke & heart attack and healthy snacking will be provided. Visitors will also receive details about dance opportunities through Chatham County's network of dance organizations and have the opportunity to win door prizes including an iPod, WiiFit, YMCA memberships, Savannah Sand Gnats Family Four Packs, plus much more!

Tenacious Woman Business Conference

Looking to get your business in front of Savannah's movers and shakers? Want to be in the Center Court of Savannah Mall at a price you can afford? Then exhibit at the Tenacious Woman Conference. On June 17 Savannah leaders, entrepreneurs and business owners from throughout the southeast will ascend on the Mall to learn and network with the best-of-the-best. The conference will run from 10 am to 8:30 p.m. and will feature workshops, lunch, evening networking and a one-on-one consulting segment that likens itself to Business "Speed Dating".

The conference keynote speaker will be Jewel Daniels. Daniels is a local businesswoman and author of the book It Takes Tenacity, 15 Power Moves to Survive the Wilderness and Weather the Economic Storm, which inspired the conference. Daniels is a graduate of Hampton University, NYU's Public Relations Institute, and holds the honor of being the first African American accepted at Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea. She got the idea for the conference and approached Senea Crystal, marketing manager at Savannah Mall, seeing it as a great location for business and fun. Crystal, who was just named a Top Ten Woman In Business by A Working Woman in Need, loved the concept and was immediately on board. So the two women joined forces with a goal of mentoring and inspiring the next wave. Since that time the conference has exceeded both of their first year expectations. The City of Savannah has joined in, along with business communications leaders such Clear Channel Communications, WJCL, the Savannah Morning News, LaVoz Latina and Skirt Magazine. "The enthusiasm and support has been wonderful, there is obviously a pent-up demand from the women in Savannah wanting to help and inspire one another in this tough economy," said Crystal.

Daniels is particularly excited about Business Speed Dating. Once the workshops conclude, conference attendees will be able to meet one-on-one with the presenters and ask questions regarding their business and careers that they might not feel comfortable raising in a group setting.

Local Art Show to Benefit Savannah’s Humane Society

The Savannah Mall's ongoing relationship with the Savannah College of Art and Design's Illustration Society is going to the dogs. This Sunday, February 28 from 1 to 4 p.m. the Mall will host a gallery opening entitled "Artists for Animals" to benefit Savannah's Humane Society. Students from SCAD's Society of Illustrators Club have created originals and prints specifically for the event. All works will feature animals and will be up for sale, with 60% of the proceeds from each sale benefiting the Humane Society, In addition the Humane Society will be holding an adoption and donation drive at the Mall with adoptable animals onsite.

According to Nancy Richards, assistant director for the Humane Society, they are accepting donations of many kinds. "The thing we need most is money because that allows us the flexibility to use the funds to fill whatever need we have at the time, but we know times are tight for people. We always need used but clean blankets and towels; Purina or Pedigree canned and dry dog food and any brand of wet cat food."

Art prices will range from $35 to $100 for prints, with originals fetching more. According to Senea Crystal, marketing director for Savannah Mall, "We have worked with SCAD's Society of Illustrators in the past with great success. It has been a wonderful way for us to support the community and fulfill our mission as the community mall." Crystal continued, "The talent of the students is outstanding and for them to be able to use those talents to benefit this worthy cause is a win-win for everyone."

Students will accept requests for commissioned portraits of family pets with a commitment to donate 60% of those proceeds to the charity. "Pets have become like children today" said Crystal. "They offer us such comfort in this great time of uncertainty."

The SCAD Illustration Department was ranked as one of the top five innovative programs by Applied Arts magazine in the October 2008 issue. According to Karen Swartz, gallery director for the Illustration Society, the organization has approximately 50 active members. "The Society is a student run group, dedicated to providing its members with activities to showcase their work and opportunities for education that will help with future careers in illustration," said Swartz. An animal lover with two cats, Swartz is excited to participate in the show, especially since the Humane Society needs extra help with the poor economy. "I will be presenting two pieces at the show and am excited to support this wonderful cause and hope to raise a lot of money for the Society," said Swartz.

After Sunday, the show will run weekends Friday to Sunday from 12 to 5 p.m. until March 21. T * Lovely from 97.3 Kiss FM will be on hand for a live broadcast during the event.

For more information or to request permission to videotape or photograph for newscasts or publication during the opening, please contact Savannah Mall Marketing Manager Senea Crystal at (912) 927-7467 or

REDEFINING RETAIL SHOPPING IN SAVANNAH, MALL OWNERS ANNOUNCE “THE MARKETPLACE AT SAVANNAH MALL”

image

Thousands of Coastal Empire businesses are receiving mailers this week announcing a new shopping concept, THE MARKETPLACE AT SAVANNAH MALL. The mailer reads: "Are you looking to ... Grow your business? Open another? Move to a smaller location with heavy foot traffic? Expand to the Savannah, GA market? Discover the Coastal Empire's largest, year-round indoor Marketplace."

SAVANNAH Georgia (July 16, 2009) -- Savannah Mall announces THE MARKETPLACE AT SAVANNAH MALL, a new indoor shopping destination that convenes neighborhood-style shops with dazzling and curious wares. Beginning with 90,000 square feet, which formerly housed Steve and Barry's, THE MARKETPLACE AT SAVANNAH redefines retail and will be the Coastal Empire's largest, year-round indoor marketplace.

"THE MARKETPLACE is an enticing concept that is working well in other cities," shares Chardell Steves, leasing manager. "In the all-weather shelter of one of Savannah's most prestigious shopping locations, complimentary shops can be in place just in time for the holidays."

SAVANNAH MALL WANTS THE EXPANSION TO BE EXECUTED IN NEIGHBORLY, SAVANNAH STYLE

The appeal of Savannah itself initially drew the attention of new mall owners in November 2007. They are betting again that Savannah style will entice out-of-town and local businesses into new space at THE MARKETPLACE AT SAVANNAH MALL.

"Shop after shop, face after face, personal things matter to us in Savannah," shares Senea Crystal. marketing director at Savannah Mall. "Entrepreneurs who fantasize about control, independence and being in charge may come to us with shop concepts, such as aromatherapy, yoga, quilting, scrapbooking, gourmet foods, or monogramming. These are the little things we love in our everyday lives. Rather than crisscrossing town, THE MARKETPLACE AT SAVANNAH MALL is congregating new shops and multi-generation businesses to deliver the ease and convenience of 'get and go' shopping."

There is no predetermined list of new shops in THE MARKETPLACE AT SAVANNAH, but Ms. Crystal offers more ideas. "We envision it as a shopping village, a retail square inside the mall -- a book shop, a garden shop, a gourmet food market, a shoe repair shop, a camera shop, a music shop, an art gallery, and an Internet cafe'," Crystal adds.

In the economy of 2009, new entrepreneurs are putting innovation to work. Savannah Mall wants to be that place for innovative doers. In 2005, it was Trendwatching.com that began speaking of new-found entrepreneurs in terms of "minipreneurs, actually be[ing] chic, allowing one to think big while implementing small."

SAVANNAH MALL SHOPPERS AND SHOPKEEPERS BENEFIT

"At Savannah Mall, we want the shopper to have it all -- the big department store and the small shop options," concludes Crystal. "THE MARKETPLACE AT SAVANNAH is 'retail, redefined'. Who would not welcome the ease and convenience of making one stop for all the little things one needs or wants," Crystal adds.

Certainly, Savannah Mall has won new community friends through its aggressive marketing and generosity, especially through the popular, well-attended events hosted at the Southside mall. "Savannah Mall is committed to being the best good-neighbor business in the coastal Georgia area," concludes Crystal. "Now is the time for BIG ideas, achievable on relatively small budgets. Savannah Mall gets that. THE MARKETPLACE is simply our next big effort to please shoppers and store owners."

On Friday, July 31, 2009, the owners of Savannah Mall are hosting an open house to introduce THE MARKETPLACE AT SAVANNAH MALL to prospective shopkeepers. For more information, contact Chardell Steves at Savannah Mall -- chardell.steves [at] savannahmall [dot] com or 912.927.7467.

Cops, Race Cars, Motorcycles, Soldiers and Firemen at Savannah Mall

Energized and devoted to altering the scary trend of teen deaths on the highway, veteran law enforcement officer Jim Griner is hosting his second COPS-CAIR (Cops Against Illegal Racing) event at Savannah Mall on June 20, 2009. "COPS-CAIR is congregating positive role models, impressive cars and motorcycles in a lighthearted family environment -- complimented with music, food, great folks and information, area law enforcement and fire personnel -- to convey proactive driver safety information in a friendly, caring fashion," shares Mr. Griner.

The heartbreaking statistics highlight the importance of the COPS-CAIR outreach event. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration,

-Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens in the US
-Each year, more than 5,000 teens (ages 16-20) are killed in passenger vehicle crashes.
-During 2006, a teen died in a traffic crash an average of once every hour on weekends and nearly once every two hours during the week.
-Nationally in 2006, 25 percent of the young drivers ages 15-20 who were killed in crashes had Blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels of .08 or higher at the time of the crash.
-Nationally in 2006, 4,842 teen passenger vehicle occupants, ages 16 to 20, were killed in motor vehicle crashes, and 58 percent (2,813) were unrestrained at the time of the fatal crash.
-Teenage drivers and passengers are among those least likely to wear their seat belts.
-While all teens are at a high-risk of experiencing a fatal crash, young males, pickup truck drivers and passengers, as well as people living in rural areas are also among those least likely to buckle up.

The show is hosted by COPS-CAIR and the Savannah Mall from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Saturday, June 20th. On-site registration begins at 8:00 AM . Judging will be from 12:00PM-1:00PM and the awards will be presented at 3:00PM.

Unique Tuning, Low Country Customs and SuperBike Specialties are participating. The U.S. Army National Guard will be bringing the unit's climbing wall and H3 "Patriot Hummer". Chick-Fil-A to Offer Peach Milkshakes During Summer Months

Chick-fil-A® is adding a new peach flavor to its line of Hand-Spun Milkshakes for the summer. The Peach Milkshake will be offered as a limited-time flavor from June 1 through Aug. 22 at the chain’s mall and stand-alone restaurants nationwide.

The Peach Milkshake is made with real peaches and, as with the chain’s year-round milkshake flavors, is hand-spun with Chick-fil-A’s popular “home-style” Icedream® and topped with light whipped cream and a maraschino cherry.

Coinciding with the Peach Milkshake rollout, Chick-fil-A will also introduce a smaller milkshake option that will remain on the menu permanently. Chick-fil-A Milkshakes will be offered in 14 oz. or 20 oz. cups and priced at $2.49 and $2.89, respectively (at most locations).

Since Chick-fil-A first introduced its line of Hand-Spun Milkshakes in May 2006, the desserts have proved to be one of the most popular products on the menu. Building upon its increasing milkshake momentum, the chain has added limited-time flavors to its milkshake menu annually. Chick-fil-A offered a Mint Cookies and Cream Milkshake in 2007, followed by a Coffee Caramel Milkshake last spring and a Peppermint Chocolate Chip Milkshake during the holidays last year.

“We continue to build upon the overall success of our Hand-Spun Milkshakes by creating limited-time flavors as a way to celebrate special times of the year,” said Woody Faulk, Chick-fil-A’s vice president of brand development. “Our previous limited-time flavors have helped maintain interest in our milkshake line among existing customers and also have helped us win new customers who were not aware of Chick-fil-A’s Milkshakes. We’ll be excited to see the same type of response with our Peach Milkshake. Some might say it’s about time that the chain based in Georgia, the ‘Peach State,’ comes up with a great-tasting peach shake with real peaches in it.”

About Chick-fil-A, Inc.

Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A, Inc. is the nation’s second-largest quick-service chicken restaurant chain (based on sales), currently with more than 1,440 restaurants in 38 states and Washington D.C. WALK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE AT THE ARTFUL SAVANNAH MALL

Quickly earning a reputation as a happy, artful place, Savannah Mall and the student illustrator's club at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) have chosen to walk on the bright side, together. Art students are bringing their creative, youthful energy and Savannah Mall is opening up new opportunities for student illustrators to showcase their great talents and works. "The brilliant art created by these very talented illustrators offers more reasons than ever before for people to leave their worries behind and come stroll together in the cool, safe corridors of Savannah Mall. We are proving here that some of the best things in life are free," shares Ms. Crystal.

ART GALLERY BY SAVANNAH COLLEGE OF ART AND DESIGN ILLUSTRATORS

"We learned with the first exhibit -- "Show Me the Munny"--that the customers are thrilled to have art and SCAD here on the Southside. " comments Ms. Crystal. Savannah Mall's new SCAD gallery is located near the 24-Hour Family Fitness Center, between Customer Service and Burlington Coat Factory on the first level. At the end of May, the SCAD Illustration Department will be hosting their Senior Show at the Savannah Mall. Seniors in the Illustration program will feature a number of pieces from their collection of artwork.

*THE SCAD MURAL PROJECT*

Located throughout the mall, the bold murals will cover floor to ceiling (12 feet) public spaces, and will vary from 18 feet to 37 feet wide. The art pieces include fun-to-whimsical as well as dark and sci-fi-esque art topics. "I have tried to fit the lighting and designs to certain areas," explains the attentive marketer. "The fun, kid-like designs will go near the children's soft play area." The first in the series will be four murals near Dillard's department store. An additional two murals will be featured in the interior corridors near Burlington Coat Factory. The sketching and grid work began inside Savannah Mall on Sunday, April 19th. The artist of each mural design is leading a team of illustrators, about 5 per team, to complete each project piece. The painting will start this weekend -- May 2-May 3. The public is invited to watch the work in progress.

*SAVANNAH MALL SEEKS OUT THE ILLUSTRATORS*

Inspired by the spontaneity and fun of the Sidewalk Art Festival, Senea Crystal presented the project concept to her friend, Julie Lieberman, a professor of illustration art at SCAD. "I wanted something similar to the Sidewalk Art, but permanent. Part of the excitement is seeing the work in progress," Ms. Crystal states. "When I pitched this to the illustration department students, the only limitations I gave were that the designs must be PG, because we're a family mall, and nonpolitical. I did not want any one part of our community offended. Other than that, the designs were fair game. My commitment was that anything and all would be considered. If I have the wall space, I'll feature an approved design". The goal is to invite students each year to submit new designs. The current murals will decorate the corridors until next year. "The art will always be new and exciting and a great way to showcase an up-and-coming group of SCAD artists!" Ms. Crystal shares.

Savannah Mall's commitment as a team playing, good neighbor is earning the southside mall a reputation as THE community gathering place for feel-good, family friendly happenings in south Savannah.
"Personally and in business, these are times when everyone should be thinking more creatively. What better way than through fun, energizing, inspiring art to show Savannah Mall's commitment to that end," concludes Ms. Crystal.

“SHOW ME THE MUNNY!“ SCAD ILLUSTRATION STUDENT CLUB PRESENTS RECEPTION AND AUCTION AT SAVANNAH MALL

SAVANNAH Georgia (April 6, 2009) -- Originality and whimsy prevail in the contemporary media of Munny fantasy toys that are flying out of showrooms from Miami to Toronto. In the Savannah show, put on by Savannah College of Art and Design illustration students, the themes range from "Sara McDoll," "Mother Earth," "Cletus McGruder," "Maybelline," "Chester," "Professor Butter Bean," "Godiva," to "Dirty Belly." Each illustrated, traditional art canvas is paired with each of nearly 30 original Munny toys.

The novel idea to merge the illustrators' art and retail brings a new twist to Savannah Mall. "The "Munny" exhibit is enormously fun and a win-win for student illustrators and the mall," shares Savannah Mall's marketing manager Senea Crystal.

All of the custom Munny toys are available for purchase during the reception (6PM), exhibit and auction (7PM) on Friday, April 10, 2009, at Savannah Mall. The full exhibit will remain on display through April 2009.

Families are encouraged to attend and to give children an opportunity to meet and talk with the talented illustrators. A portion of the auction proceeds is earmarked to child-related charities in the Savannah area.

ILLUSTRATED ART ON SAVANNAH'S SOUTHSIDE

The SCAD illustration department was ranked as one of the top five innovative programs by Applied Arts magazine in the October 2008 issue. The ranking highlighted universities where educators are preparing students for the changing world of design.

The contemporary "show me the munny!" exhibit is the first of many events that the illustration students are launching at Savannah Mall. "This beautiful, spacious venue gives new audiences a chance to experience some of the innovative talent coming through SCAD," reports Professor Julie Lieberman, Illustration student club adviser.

BEGINNING WITH A TUBBY WHITE CANVAS
The student illustrators began with an endearingly chubby white Munny, which stands 7 inches tall and weighs about 1 pound. "Munny" is a do-it-yourself vinyl toy from the American designer toy company Kidrobot.

The mall is showcasing the students' work at zero cost and is reaching out to introduce even more artisan and select one-off products. For more information, contact Senea Crystal at Savannah Mall -- telephone 912.927.7467 or email .

SAMPLING OF THE ARTISTS AND THEIR WORKS

Jeremy Caldwell :: Munny is "Cletus McGruder"
Jeremy is a senior in Illustration at the Savannah College of Art and Design and will graduate in June 2009. He has been the SOI student club president this past academic year. "I remember my first experience holding a pencil when I was six years old. My aunt was a talented artist herself and she taught me how to hold the pencil to make different kinds of marks on the paper. Sadly a year later she suffered brain damage from an automotive accident and wasn’t able to teach me anymore. But I really enjoyed trying to recreate what was going on in my mind on the page, so I stuck with it."

Cletus McGruder's story is one of wonder and sadness. Once a promising lawyer working at a prestigious law firm in Atlanta he finally got fed up with all the frivolous, faulty coffee-cup lawsuits and set out on his own. He has traveled the world with his trusty balder cap looking for his true passion in life. But it seems his abnormally sized teeth have a negative effect when dealing with first impressions. One person actually tried to hire him to rake his front yard; and no, he did not own any gardening tools. One day, though, while retracing the steps in Sherman's March to the Sea, Cletus came upon a magical pair of suspenders, just hanging on a tree limb. As soon as he put them on he knew things would be different. Now, he travels the country as a motivational speaker telling people about the positive effects suspenders can have on your self-esteem, and how they distract from otherwise unpopular facial deformities.

...........

Cassie Dixon :: Munny is "Maybelline"
Cassie Dixon is a senior in Illustration at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Originally from Las Cruces, New Mexico, she enjoys good Mexican food and desert thunderstorms. Upon graduation, she hopes to work as a successful freelance illustrator, her favorite themes to paint including (but not limited to) children, animals, creatures that don't really exist, and anything that has a toothy smile.

Maybelline the naked Munny loves makeup. With a full head of beautiful, turquoise hair and one large, round eye but no eyelashes, Maybelline longs more than anything to wear mascara. Poor Maybelline, someone needs to buy him some big fluffy fake ones! Maybe he wasn't born with it, but he certainly is Maybelline!

...........

Sarah Marie Burgess :: Munny is "Mother Earth"
Sarah Marie Burgess is a senior at the Savannah College of Art and Design, due to graduate winter, 2010. She will receive her BFA in Illustration and hopes to attend graduate school sometime in the near future. Her style consists of whimsical characters with sophisticated renderings in watercolor, ink or colored pencil.

"Mother Earth" is the spirit that exists in nature. She is the flowers and the trees, the wind and the water. Her will is strong and her arms are open to her all her children. But Mother Earth's children have wronged her: they have burned her, broken her, and trashed her. Her children have forgotten their promise. They have forgotten to cherish her. They have forgotten the smell of clean air. They have forgotten the touch of grass under their feet and the sound of birds is the trees. "They" are us. We are her children and we have forgotten what Mother Earth has given us. Remember her and treasure her; we only have one.

...........

Merisha Lemmer :: Munny is "Dirty Belly"
Merisha Lemmer graduated in March 2009 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in Illustration. She was born and made the country of Sonoma County, California, her home. She is an artist through and through. At the age of 5 she did family portraits, the most famous contained no bodies, yet everyone had an abundance of leg hair. She always uses vibrant colors to express her favorite emotion, happiness. Merisha’s passion for illustrating children's books was brought on by her favorite author/illustrator and hero, Patricia Polacco, who writes about life on her farm where she does art with kids. Merisha is very playful and loves kids and would like to do something similar with her life. She would like to make books for learning, books that will inspire. She would also love to illustrate books for publishers of Native American stories, keeping her Choctaw heritage alive.

Dirty Belly is a Native American warrior doll. He was inspired by the Apache tribe's tale of the outcast who won the respect of their chief. The design on this doll was taken from the Chickasaw tribe. Dirty Belly is a valiant warrior who cares for his people and respects his elders. He uses his spear to kill the buffalo and provide food for his tribe. Even though he was an outcast he never gave up and eventually he prevailed. He teaches us to never give up and miracles can happen.
...........

Danielle Feliciano :: Munny is "Sara McDoll"
Danielle Feliciano is a senior illustration student at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Originally from the warm shores of Virginia Beach, Virginia, she is an aspiring book illustrator. Danielle, being a lover of antiques, has a passion for collecting Eastern silks and old photographs. She tries to incorporate both a sense of mystery and nostalgic warmth in her artwork, through the use of delicate pattern and ethereal imagery.

Sara McDoll is a very proper lady, always eager join you for tea. Although she can't walk on her own or even drink tea, she makes a fine companion or an even better centerpiece. A virtual tea fanatic, she has taken to decorate her once blank surface with elegant china patterns from all over the world. "You can serve Chinese green tea or English Earl Grey, but it's just ain't tea unless you serve it in a properly decadent cup!" is her favorite famous saying. Well, perhaps it's not a real famous quote, but don't tell Sara. She can get a little steamed-up under the lid!

...........

Meredith Lear :: Munny is "Godiva"
Meredith Lear is a native of Kentucky, growing up in the small town of Burgin (population 900). Upon graduation from Burgin High School in 2005, she enrolled in the Savannah College of Art and Design. Meredith chose to attend an art school because she had an overwhelming passion, and wanted to become immersed in the arts. After one year at SCAD and an inspiring professor she chose to major in Illustration. That decision was based on her belief that "art for print" is the true "art for everyone." Meredith's goal is to make her artwork accessible to all, not just exclusive to galleries. Following graduation in May 2009 she will return to Kentucky to pursue a Master of Fine Arts degree, while beginning her career as a freelance illustrator.

"Godiva" and the altered print of "The Last Supper," by Da Vinci are intended to be an installation set. Godiva, the gourmet chocolate bunny has had his ear bitten off by Jesus in the framed image that hangs behind him. The bunny has caramel filling dripping from his ear and foil around his feet. In the image Jesus is guilty with chocolate on his hands and mouth, while Easter eggs surround the subjects on the table. Godiva chocolates are meals fit for a King. I was inspired by Easter being right around the corner and my continual love for food and pastry arts.

ABOUT THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA'S PINEWOOD DERBY

The Pinewood Derby began in Manhattan Beach, California, from the idea of a Cub Scout father, Don Murphy. Murphy and the Management Club at a company called North American Aviation, where he worked in 1953, pushed his idea forward. Since its beginnings an estimated 43 million sons and fathers (mostly) have participated.

"I wanted to devise a wholesome, constructive activity that would foster a closer father-son relationship and promote craftsmanship and good sportsmanship through competition," writes Murphy. "I'd made models of airplanes, cars, boats, and any number of other structures and remembered the pleasure I got out of doing it," he said.

HERE COMES THE KING!  COME SEE THE WORLD-FAMOUS BUDWEISER CLYDESDALES AT SAVANNAH MALL

SAVANNAH, Georgia (March 6, 2009) -- Come see the world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales at Savannah Mall near Bass Pro Shops. The stallions, affectionately called the marvels of main street, will make their first public stop in Savannah at Savannah Mall on Thursday, March 12th (11am - 1pm).

"The emotional response is immense! New generations want to follow in the footsteps of their parents and grandparents to introduce the magnificent Clydesdales to their families," states Senea Crystal, marketing manager at Savannah Mall. "The first time I saw the Budweiser Clydesdales is an occasion I will never forget."

"I am not embarrassed to say that I am absolutely thrilled just thinking about seeing the Clydesdales again soon!" Crystal adds. And, if the anticipation isn't enough, you can play the Clydesdales' song, "Here Comes the King" [http://www.anheuser-busch.com/clydesdales/clydesdales-budweiser.html] at your desk for a little worktime fun!

"Savannah Mall is especially encouraging military families from Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield, and the families in Bryan, Liberty and Effingham counties to come to visit the Clydesdales on Savannah's southside," states Senea Crystal, marketing manager at Savannah Mall. There is no charge to view the Clydesdales during the Savannah Mall appearance.

The Budweiser Clydesdales' visit is sponsored by Southern Eagle Distributing. The Savannah area schedule for the hitch team follows:
- Thursday, 3/12/2009 Full Hitch, Bass Pro Shop, Savannah Mall, 11am - 1pm
- Saturday, 3/14/2009 Full Hitch, Tybee parade, 3pm
- Sunday, 3/15/2009 Richmond Hill Day public viewing, One Horseshow City market, 11am - 1pm
- Tuesday, 3/17/2009 Full Hitch, Savannah St. Patrick's Day parade, 10 am

From March 9-18, the Budweiser Clydesdales will take up temporary residency at J.F. Gregory Park in Richmond Hill.

THE BUDWEISER CLYDESDALES
The Budweiser Clydesdales have been the symbol of Anheuser-Busch for more than 75 years. They were formally introduced on April 7, 1933, to celebrate the repeal of Prohibition for beer. August A. Busch Jr. and Adolphus Busch III. presented a hitch of horses to their father to celebrate the day. To their father's delight, the hitch thundered down Pestalozzi Street carrying the first case of post-Prohibition beer from the St. Louis brewery.

More Clydesdale facts from Anheuser-Busch:
- Duke, Captain, Mark and Bud are just a few of the names given to the Budweiser Clydesdales. Names are kept short to make it easier for the driver to give commands to the horses during a performance.
- The traveling hitches make more than 500 appearances annually.
- Ten Clydesdales travel with each hitch. Two are alternates.
- Clydesdales are given short names, such as Duke and Bud, to make commands easier for the driver.
- The first television ad featuring the Budweiser Clydesdales aired in 1956

DALMATIANS TOO! A CLYDESDALE'S BEST FRIEND
The Budweiser Dalmatian, a Clydesdale's best friend, travels with the hitch. The Dalmatian is perched atop the wagon, seated next to the driver. The Dalmatian breed is known as coach dogs, because they ran between the wheels of coaches or carriages and were companions to the horses. The Dalmatians have traveled with the Clydesdale hitches since the 1950s.

Savannah Mall Launches New Web Site Designed To Better Communicate Customer-facing Happenings

SAVANNAH Georgia (January 29, 2009) -- A new Savannah Mall Web site is announced today. Showcasing the high-spirited energy and optimism of the southside mall's new owners, the new Web site -- http://www.savannahmall.com -- will serve to better communicate Savannah Mall's customer-facing initiatives.

"Our new website is fabulous! It is bright, cheery, and easy to navigate. We want the new Savannah Mall Web site to not only be a resource for customers but a place to announce the fun community events we have the privilege to host," shares Senea Crystal, marketing director.

The new SavannahMall.com marks the next stage of the southside mall's transformation to share its revitalized, community-centric shopping experience. Crystal advises, "The new communications tool will serve as a "one-stop" portal to provide a continual overview of Savannah Mall shops, special promotions and activities."

"Beyond cost-efficiency that the Internet affords, the speed of web-based communications allows Savannah Mall to outreach more rapidly and more often," reiterates Ms. Crystal. "We are eager to work smarter and optimistically to encourage the residents in southeast Georgia and South Carolina to DISCOVER MORE at Savannah Mall's stores. Seniors, families and children love the optimal safe, comfortable, relaxing experience inside the mall."

"By signing up for our online news -- at the link BE IN THE KNOW -- folks can be immediately informed of sales, insider tips, and special events," shares Crystal. "As good neighbors, Savannah Mall rallies the support of our store managers and corporate media folks to encourage participation when we host an event. We use our Internet tools also to assist many nonprofit organizations, especially those who do not have the budget to outreach on their own," Crystal shares.

With the food court, indoor carousel and expanded center court, Savannah Mall is a preferred setting for family friendly events, regardless of the weather. "Time and time again, Savannah Mall has responded to support the citizens in southeast Georgia and South Carolina," reports Crystal. "The most popular events include Angela Beasley's Puppet People, Let's Dance, Savannah!, Healing Field flag display with the R.O.C.K. Group, the Safe Kids event with U.S. Marshalls' office, the Savannah Morning News's Ultimate Yard Sale, a number of baby shower events with Amerigroup, and regular meetings of the Savannah Small Business Chamber."

"On our new Web site we have posted a simplified form to speed and simplify the process to request Savannah Mall to host a community, business and nonprofit event," reports Crystal. "We listen and respond to what our shoppers want and expect. Improving the mall's Web site is simply Savannah Mall's latest initiative to do ALL that we do EVEN better," Ms. Crystal concludes.

Cops, Race Cars, Motorcycles and Firemen, Oh My! at Savannah Mall

Cops, Race Cars, Motorcycles and Firemen, Oh My! at Savannah Mall

SAVANNAH Georgia (January 14, 2009) -- Energized and devoted to altering the scary trend of teen deaths on the highway, veteran law enforcement officer Jim Griner launches the inaugural COPS-CAIR (Cops Against Illegal Racing) event at Savannah Mall on January 31.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration,
Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens in the US
- Each year, more than 5,000 teens (ages 16-20) are killed in passenger vehicle crashes.
- During 2006, a teen died in a traffic crash an average of once every hour on weekends and nearly once every two hours during the week.
- Nationally in 2006, 25 percent of the young drivers ages 15-20 who were killed in crashes had Blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels of .08 or higher at the time of the crash.
Nationally in 2006, 4,842 teen passenger vehicle occupants, ages 16 to 20, were killed in motor vehicle crashes, and 58 percent (2,813) were unrestrained at the time of the fatal crash.
Teenage drivers and passengers are among those least likely to wear their seat belts.
While all teens are at a high-risk of experiencing a fatal crash, young males, pickup truck drivers and passengers, as well as people living in rural areas are also among those least likely to buckle up.
The show is hosted by the Savannah Mall and will be held outside the Bass Pro Shops Store from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Saturday, January 31. On-site registration begins at 8:00 AM.

WHAT'S THE SOUND?
Until heard, the rich sound of the Tuba and Euphonium (Baritone Horn) ensemble can barely be imagined. All-tuba ensembles, along with the combination of Tuba and Euphonia/Baritone horn ensembles, have become increasingly popular as the musical taste of the public has developed and matured. Music in played in four parts, the higher two parts being played on euphoniums and the lower two parts on tubas.

Check out the sounds of the Tuba and Euphonium music from The Modern Jazz Tuba Project, which can be heard through a search iTunes.com or Amazon.com. Or, do a search for Heavy Tuba Meltdown on YouTube.com if you don't know the richness of the sound to expect.

THE TUBA
The tuba, producing a sound of unparalleled power, grandeur and nobility, is so pleasing that mediocre scores have been raised to near greatness by the abundant use of tubas in the instrumentation. Best associated with the big, loud instruments that go 'oompah' in the back of parades, an orchestra typically has a single tuba, and perhaps two.

The tuba is the lowest-pitched member of the family of brass wind instruments, but the XXL-sized tuba (Latin for "trumpet") is not an ancient invention. Its design was first patented in 1835 in Germany and after gaining initial favor in British brass bands later that century, the tuba eventually crossed the Atlantic Ocean where the instrument ended up serving a key role in the early jazz bands of New Orleans.

Along the way, tubas won a fan-base of people and players who loved the lowdown instrument. Indeed, every year since 1979 the first Friday in May has been celebrated in an increasing number of American states and foreign countries as International Tuba Day.

THE EUPHONIUM
The euphonium (commonly called a small tuba or referred to as a baritone horn) whose name is derived from the Greek word euphonos, meaning "beautiful-sounding" or "sweet-voiced." If you don't know the instrument, it's the sound you're quickly recognize coming from marching bands, including the United State Navy Band, with Master Chief Behrend its principal euphonium instrumentalist and featured soloist.
